ANS Parasympatholytics or Antimuscarinics Flashcards
Atropine
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. natural, CNS long duration. prevents IP3 release. salivary, bronchial, sweat glands most sensitive. parietal cells least sensitive. rapid 2hr and slow 13 hr phases, rapid decline in all but eye. varied dose response: slight bradycardia to tachycardia to severe cardiac + CNS systems. inhibit excessive salivation + sweating, treat organophosphate poisoning
Scopolamine
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. natural, CNS long duration. central effects at low therapeutic doses. absorbed across skin. treat motion sickness, inhibit excessive salivation
Homatropine + Tropicamide
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. semisynthetic, shorter duration of action
Ipratropium
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. semisynthetic, does not cross BBB. treat asthma + COPD
Pirenzepine
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. semisynthetic, M1. treat peptic ulcer
Tolterodine
muscarinic antagonist, competitive. semisynthetic, M3. treat bladder spasm, incontinence
