ANS Flashcards
somatic nervous system
voluntary, skeletal muscles
autonomic nervous system
involuntary or visceral
ex: smooth m, heart, glands
sympathetic
key role in body response to stress
stimulate cardiovascular and respiratory
diminish digestive, urinary and repro functions when stressed
sympathetic trunk
chain of ganglion outside vertebral canal
communicating branches
connect spinal n and sympathetic trunk
GVE sympathetic to peripheral smooth mm and glands
lateral horn-> ventral root->communicating branch-> ganglion in sympathetic trunk (SYNAPSE)->communicating branch-> ventral and dorsal branches (post-ganglionic)
GVE sympathetic to internal smooth mm, glands and heart
lateral horn-> ventral root-> communicating branch-> sympathetic trunk-> splanchnic nerves->visceral ganglion (SYNAPSE)->target organ (post-ganglionic)
GVE sympathetic to head sm and glands
lateral horn-> ventral root-> communicating branch->cervicothoracic ganglion-> middle cervical ganglion->sympathetic trunk-> cranial cervical ganglion (SYNAPSE)-> to head
visceral afferent neuron pathway
take sensory info to spinal nerve, then spinal ganglion, then dorsal root to dorsal horn
