Q

Explain the motility of large intestine

A

1)Haustral contractions: slow, gentle contractions in the colon that happen in response to it stretching. They mainly occur in the ascending and transverse colon, moving food slowly to help with digestion.
2)Mass movment:strong, slow waves that push feces toward the rectum. They happen about 3-4 times a day, mostly in the descending and sigmoid colon, which also act as storage areas. They usually occur after eating due to the gastrocolic reflex.
