salt weathering
A type of mechanical weathering
sea water gets into the cracks in the Rock
when the water evaporates, salt crystals form.
As the salt crystals form they expand which puts pressure on the Rock Repeated evaporation of salt water and the forming of salt crystals why does the cracks and closes the rock to break up
Carbonation weathering is a type of chemical weathering that happens in warm and wet conditions
1) SEAWATER AND RAINWATER HAVE CO2 DISSOLVED IN THEM WHICH MAKES THEM WEAK CARBONIC ACIDS
2) CARBONIC ACID REACTS WITH ROCK THAT CONTAINS CALCIUM CARBONATE EG CARBONIFEROUS LIMESTONE, SO THE ROCKS ARE DISSOLVED BY THE RAINWATER.
WHAT IS MASS MOVEMENT
THE SHIFTINGN OF ROCKS AND LOOSE MATERIAL DOWN A SLOPE EG. A CLIFF
MASS MOEVEMNTS CAUSE COASTS TO RETREAT RAPIDLY
THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR WHEN THE MATERIAL IS FULL OF. WATER - IT ACTS AS A LUBRICANT AND MAKES THE MATERIAL HEAVEIER
THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF MASSMOEVEKJTS -
SLIDES-MATERIAL SHIFTS IN A STRAIGHT LINE
SLUMPS-MATERIAL SHIFTS WITH A ROTATION
ROCKFALLS-MATERIAL BREAKS UP AND FALLS DOWN SLOPES
