risk factors of anorexia nervosa
cessation of menstruation, mottled cool skin, dehydration, eating habits, value on body shape, mental status
assessment for anorexia nervosa
powerlessness, decreased cardiac output, disturbed body image, chronic low self-esteem
diagnosis of anorexia nervosa
hr below 50, systolic bp below 90, temp below 96, 75% or less of ideal body weight, electrolyte imbalances, dysrhythmias
concern for risk of anorexia nervosa
occurs when carbs are reintroduced too quickly into the diet; leading to increased in insulin secretion causing a drop in electrolytes (k, mg, p)
refeeding syndrome
weakness, arrhythmias, muscle cramps, confusion
refeeding syndrome symptoms
psychotherapy, nutritional rehabilitation, encourage self-image, SSRIs and mood stabilizers
anorexia nervosa interventions
reoccurring cycles of binge eating followed by behaviors such as vomiting, excessive exercise, or fasting to prevent weight gain
bulimia nervosa
reoccurent episodes of eating large amounts of food in a short period; feelings of loss of control or distress
binge eating disorder
person avoids certain foods or restricts intake due to sensory issue, fear of weight gain, or lack of interest in eating
avoidant/restrictive disorder
persistent consumption of non-food items such as clay, dirt, or paper
pica disorder
