Ankle pathology Flashcards
why is the ankle inherently unstable in plantarflexion
- ligament are not flexed in plantarflexion making unstbale to support joint
-ruduces foot contact with ground reducing balance and more likely to twist
What do lateral ligaments resist
inversion
what does deltoid ligaments resist
eversion
Diagnostic structure ankle
1.) IS IT SINISTER?
2.) IS IT ANKLE RELATED?
3.) WHERE IS THE PRIMARY AFFECTED REGION?
CALF/SHIN
HEEL
FOOT
diagnosis sinister pathologies ankle
cancer
infection
DVT
fracture
diagnosis not ankle related
Lx spine
knee joint
dignosis calf/shin

muscle strains
diagnosis heel
achilles tendon
severs disease
diagnosis foot
ligament sprains
plantar fasciopathy
stress fracture
define medial tibial stress syndrome
pain along the posteriormedial border of the tibia that occurs during exercise
define chronic exertional compartmental syndrome
increased compartmental pressure causing reduced blood flow
define achilles tendinopathy
TENDINOPATHY - overuse injury caused by pain and loss of funtion
RUPTURE- suddden, partial or full thickness tear of tendon fibers
Define severs disease
heel pain in growing children
define plantar fasciopathy
overuse injury characterised by heel pain or loss of function
