Ankle Muscles Flashcards
Fibularis Longus Origin
the upper 2/3rds of the poster aspect fibula and lateral condyle of the tibia.
Fibularis Longus Insertion
base of the 1st metatarsal and medial cuneiform.
Fibularis Brevis Origin
Lower 2/3rds of the poster aspect fibula.
Fibularis Brevis Insertion
base of the 5th metatarsal
Longus, Brevis, Tertius Action?
Evert and plantarflex the foot
Tibialis Posterior Origin
upper 2/3rd of the posterior and lateral surface of the tibia below the soleal line. posterior surface of the fibula.
Tibialis Posterior Insertion
medial side of the navicular and plantar surface of the medial cuneiform.
Extensor Digitorum longus Origin
lies over EHL, upper 2/3rds of the Anterior Surface of the fibula. also attaching high to the lateral condyle of the tibia.
EDL Insertion
tendon forms the extensor hood which attaches to the lateral 4 digits.
EHL Insertion
attaches to the base of the distal phalanx - Great Toe.
Extensor Hallucis Longus Origin
Middle Half of the anterior surface of the fibula.
EDB Origin
arises from the calcareous the belly is on the dorsal aspect of the foot.
EDB Insertion
dorsal aspect of the base of of the proximal phalanx of the great toe. the remaining three tendons join the extensor hood of the second third and fourth toes.
EDB Action
Aids EHL with exntension of the great toe.
lateral attachment aids EDL extend 234 digits.
EHL Action
Extends all the joints in the great toe.
EDL Action
Extends the lateral 4 toes off the metatarsophalageal joints and interphalangeal joints
Tibialis Anterior Origin
upper 2/3rds of the lateral surface of the tibia and adjoining part of the interosseous membrane.
TA Insertion
medial side of the medial cuneiform and base of the first metatarsal.
TA Action
Dorsiflexes and inverts the foot.
EDL, EHL and fibulas brevis Action
Dorsiflex the ankle joint.
Gastroc Origin
two heads arise from the medial and lateral condyles of the femur.
- medial head from the adductor tubercle on the popliteal surface.
- lateral head outer surface of the lateral condyle of the femur
Gastroc Insertion
middle portion of the calcaneous
Gastroc Nerve Supply
Tibial Nerve
Root Level S1 S2.
Soleus Origin
Solar line on the poster surface of the tibia and the upper 1/3 of the fibula.
