Ankle and Foot Flashcards
Components of Medial Longitudinal Arch?
Navicular, cuneiforms (1-3), talus, metatarsals (1-3)
Primary stabilizer of medial ankle?
Deltoid lig.
Components of Lateral Longitudinal Arch?
Calcaneus, cuboid, metatarsals (4-5)
Primary stabilizers of lateral ankle; 85% of all ankle sprains are from what movement?
ATF, Calcaneofibular, and Posterior talofibular
*85% of all ankle sprains are inversion, ATF is first!
Monofilament test placement
- Plantar aspect of foot, pt closes eyes, monofilament placed on the 1st and 4th pad of toes
- Base of 1st, 3rd, and 5th plantar MTP joints
ROM for: Dorsiflexion, Plantarflexion, Subtalar inversion/eversion
Dorsiflexion: 15-20
Plantarflexion: 55-65
Inversion: 20
Eversion: 10-20
Pronation of ankle is coupled w/ what movements?
Dorsiflexion, ABduction, Eversion
Supination of ankle is coupled w/ what movements?
Plantarflexion, ADduction, Inversion
Dermatome for Achilles reflex
S1
Talar tilt test is for what ligament?
Calcaneofibular L. (lateral ankle sprain)
Eversion test is for what ligament?
Deltoid L. (medial ankle sprain)
Tests for syndesmosis/high ankle sprain?
Squeeze test and Cross leg test
Test for achilles tendon rupture?
Thompson Test (squeeze calf, foot should plantar flex)
What is Homan’s sign?
Dorsiflex pt’s foot, any pain indicates…
Indicates thrombophlebitis or acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT)
What is Moses Sign?
Anterior compression on gastrocnemius (compress calf toward tibia)
Pain = DVT of the posterior tibial veins
