Ankle and Foot Flashcards
Tibialis Anterior
Very palpable with fully active dorsiflexion and is the first muscle to the lateral side of the anterior tibial border and prominent tendon crossing ankle
Extensor digitorum longus
Divides into 4 tendons just distal to anterior ankle with active toe extension
Extensor hallucis longus
Palpate on the dorsal aspect of the great toe lateral to tibialis anterior and medial to extensor digitorum longus.
Gastrocnemius
Get model to stand on tip toes and it’s the large muscle bulk.
Soleus
Stand on tip does but then bend knees to 90 degrees and palpate laterally and medially of gastrocnemius.
Tibialis Posterior
Palpate proximally and distally immediately behind the medial malleolus with inversion and plantar flexion and better distinguished is toes are in slight extension. have patient lying prone with knee at 90 degrees of flexion
Flexor digitorum longus
Tendon can be palpated immediately posterior to the medial malleolus and tibialis posterior and anterior to flex.hal long with flexion of the four lesser toes while maintain great toe extension, ankle dorsiflexion and foot eversion
Flexor hallucis longus
Most posterior of the three tendons immediately behind the medial malleolus
Peroneus longus
Upper lateral side of the tibia; just distal to the fibular head and down to immediately posterior to lateral malleolus with active eversion.
Peroneus brevis
Tendon at proximal end of 5th metatarsal just proximal and posterior to the lateral malleolus active eversion
