A: dorsiflexion, assist eversion
Tibialis posterior
O: posterior surface of tibia, inferior to soleal line, posterior surface of fibula, and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: tuberosity of navicular, plantar aspects of medial, intermediate, and lateral cuneiforms, plantar aspects of bases of 2-4 metatarsals
A: plantar flexion and inversion
Fibularis brevis
O: lateral surface of fibula and adjacent intermuscular septa
I: tuberosity of 5th metatarsal
A: eversion, assist plantar flexion
Fibularis longus
O: head and lateral surface of fibula, adjacent intermuscular septa
I: plantar surface of medial cuneiform and base of 1st metatarsal
A: eversion, assist plantar flexion
Extensor hallucis longus
O: medial surface of fibula and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: dorsal aspect of base of distal phalanx of great toe
A: dorsiflexion, big toe extension
Flexor digitorum longus
O: posterior surface of tibia, inferior to soleal line
I: plantar aspects of bases of the distal phalanges of 2-5th toes
A: plantar flexion, flexion of 2-5 toes
Flexor hallucis longus
O: distal two thirds of posterior surface of fibula and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: plantar aspect of base of distal phalanx of big toe
A: plantar flexion, big toe flexion
Extensor digitorum longus
O: lateral condyle of tibia, proximal three quarters of fibula, and adjacent interosseous membrane
I: dorsal aspects of bases of middle and distal phalanges of 2-5th toes
A: dorsiflexion, extension of 2-5th toe
Soleus
O: head of fibula, posterior surface of fibula, soleal line, and medial border of tibia
I: posterior surface of calcaneus, via calcaneal tendon
A: plantar flexion
Plantaris
O: lateral supracondylar line of femur
I: posterior surface of calcaneus
A: assist plantar flexion and assist knee flexion
Tibialis anterior
O: lateral condyle and proximal half of lateral surface of tibia, adjacent interosseous membrane
I: inferomedial aspect of medial cuneiform and base of 1st metatarsal
Action: dorsiflexion, inversion
Gastrocnemius (2 heads)
O: medial head = medial condyle and popliteal surface of femur
: lateral head = lateral condyle and lateral supracondylar line of femur
I: posterior surface of calcaneus, via calcaneal tendon
A: plantar flexion and knee flexion
