A

Benzodiazepines

A

Medication of choice for pts who are having an ACUTE ANXIETY attack, and need to get in under control quickly!! Providers try to refrain from prescribing them because they are HIGHLY ADDICTIVE.

Buspirone

A

Is NOT ADDICTIVE, but it takes 2-4 weeks to work. So you will not give it to a person who is having an acute anxiety/anxiety attack right now.

A

What is Mild Anxiety?

A

Occurs in the normal experience of everyday living and allows an individual to perceive reality in sharp focus. A person experiencing a mild level of anxiety sees, hears, and grasps more information, and problem-solving becomes more effective.

What is Moderate Anxiety?

A

The person experiencing moderate anxiety sees, hears, and grasps less information and may demonstrate selective inattention, where only certain things in the environment are seen or heard unless they are pointed out.

What is Panic Anxiety?

A

Unable to process what is going on in the environment and may lose touch with reality. The behavior that results may be manifested as pacing, running, shouting, screaming, or withdrawal. Hallucinations, which are false sensory perceptions, such as seeing something that is not really there or hearing voices, may be experienced.

Panic disorder

A

People experiencing panic attacks may believe that they are losing their minds or having a heart attack. These feelings only last for a few minutes.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

A

Pathological obsessions or compulsions cause marked distress to individuals who often feel humiliation and shame regarding these behaviors.

  • Let the patient finish their ritual to overcome OCD. (Patient cleaning the table)
  • Obessive cannot be dismissed from mind.
  • Complusions ritualistic behaviors used to reduce anxiety.

A

False assumptions about the importance of appearance, fear of rejection by others, perfectionism, and the conviction of being disfigured lead to overwhelming emotions of disgust, shame, and depression.

No drug approved.
