a process by which individuals that are suited to their environment survive and reproduce most successfully
Eco-tourism
tourism to exotic or threatened ecosystems to observe wildlife or to help preserve nature
Overfishing
depletion of fish stocks by excessive fishing
Threatened species
species that could become endangered in the near future. At risk of extinction
Extinction
species that is no longer in existence
Endangered species
animals or plants that may soon not exist because there are very few now alive
Migrate
When an animal migrates, it travels to a different place, usually when the season changes
Adapt
to change, or to change something, to suit different conditions or uses
Animal husbandry
the skill of keeping animals
Battery hens
egg laying hens that are kept in battery cages
Free-range
relating to or produced by farm animals that are allowed to move around outside and are not kept in cages
Organic farming
an agricultural system that uses ecologically based pest controls and biological fertilizers derived largely from animal and plant wastes and nitrogen-fixing cover crops
Marsupial
a mammal whose young develop inside a maternal pouch (kangaroo)
