Animal Tissues Flashcards
Name the four types of animal tissue
epithelial, connective, muscular, nervous tissue
What does connective tissue consist of?
It consists of a number of cells spread out in a matrix (or material) that is produced by the connective tissue
What is the function of connective tissue?
Connective tissue joins and supports other body structures
Give examples of connective tissue (4)
Adipose tissue (which stores fat, e.g. under the skin), cartilage, bone and blood.
Explain why blood is a connective tissue
Because it consists of red cells, white cells and platelets suspended in a matrix called plasma.
What is nervous tissue composed of?
It is composed of nerve cells called neurons.
What is the function of nervous tissue?
Neurons are adapted to carry electrical impulses to and from the brain and spinal cord.
