animal coordination, control, homeostasis Flashcards
what are hormones?
chemical messengers sent in blood
what are hormones produced by?
endocrine glands
what do endocrine glands do?
produce hormones
types of endocrine glands?
ovaries
testes
adrenal glands
pancreas
thyroid
what do ovaries do?

fight or flight
what does the pancreas do?
produces insulin
regulates blood glucose level
what do thyroid glands do?
produce thyroxine
regulates temperature, heart rate

prepares you for fight or flight
increases the supply of oxygen and glucose to cells
how does adrenaline work?
binds to specific receptors in the heart
