Animal and Plant Sub-cellular Structures Flashcards
Nucleus
It controls the activities in the cell. It contains the genetic material and determines the appearance and function of the cell. It also contains the instructions to make new cells
Mitochondria
It’s where respiration happens with the help of enzymes. The reactions transfer energy to organisms
Cell membrane
A selective barrier that controls which substances pass in and out of the cell and it contains receptor molecules
Cytoplasm
A jellylike substance and the reactions that keep the cell alive happen here
Chloroplast
These contain green chlorophyll and the chlorophyll transfers energy from the sun to the plant as light which is used for photosynthesis. Chloroplasts are the only green parts of the plant
Vacuole
It is full of cell sap which is a water solution of sugars and salts and it helps keep the cell rigid, supporting the plant and keeping it upright
Cell wall
This surrounds the cell and it is made of a tough fibre called cellulose and it keeps the cell rigid and supports it
