Angular Motion Flashcards
Define angular displacement
Change in angular position
What is angular displacement measured in?
Multiple units - degrees =, revolutions and radians (2 pi)
What is a radian?
1 radian is when the radius is the same as the arc length
No units just a ratio
Angle = arc length/radius
Why is are there 2 pi radians in a circle?
The circumference = pi x diameter
Diameter - 2 x the radius
2x radius x pi
s= r x angle so the angle = 2pi
How do we work out angular displacement?
Use the right hand rule to find the z axis
The way the fingers curl is positive
How do we convert between the multiple different units?
Degrees to revolution= x/360 x1
Degrees to radians = x/360 x 2 pi
What is angular velocity?
Displacement / change in time
Measured in radians per second
Shown by omega symbol
What is angular acceleration?
Change in angular velocity/ change in time
What is circular motion?
Centre of mass rotates at a constant distance from a fixed axis of rotation
What is tangential velocity?
radius x angular velocity
What is tangential acceleration?
Radius x angular acceleration
What is radial acceleration?
radial velocity = 0
radial acceleration = radius x angular velocity squared towards the centre
