Anesthetics and Analgesics Flashcards
General Anesthetics MOA
Ligand gated ion channel - GABA, Nicotinic, etc
General Anesthetics Effects
CVS: CO decrease TPR decrease
Respi: Bronchodilation, depressant of muco-ciliary function, Respi depressant - poor reflex to hypercapnia
Kidney, Liver Blood flow decreases
IV Anesthetics MOA and examples
GABA receptor agonist, open GABA-Gated ion channels
- Barbiturate
- Ketamine
- Propofol
Local Anesthesia Chemical properties
Weak bases, inject w NaHCO3; effective in alkali tissues for uncharged form to pass through;
Local Anesthesia MOA and SE
Nerves, CNS, Heart cells
- block Na Channel at intracellular end, limit depolarization, make cells less excitable
- Sleepiness, Seizure, Coma
- Decrease contractility, hypotension
Narcotic Analgesics MOA and Examples
GPCR; Codeine, Morphine
If leak systemic has suppressive effects
CNS: cough suppression, sedation, respi depression
GI: constipation
CVS: BC, Hypotension
