Anesthetics - Ancillary Flashcards
drugs for sedation
diazepam, promethazine, diphenhydramine
use of pentothiazines (promethazine)
has anti-DA/anti-Ach/anti-H action BUT lowers threshold for seizures.
drugs for analgesia
morphine, codeine, fentanyl, ibuprofen
drug for antimicrobial prophylaxis
cephalosporins & vanc
drugs for RSI (rapid sequence intubation)
lidocaine, vecuronium, atropine, fentanyl
lidocaine use in RSI
will ↓ICP & bronchospastic response
fentanyl use in RSI
will ↓sympathetic response to intubation
atropine use in RSI
mitigates bradycardia post succinylcholine (good for children < 10).
vecuronium use in RSI
defasciculates and mitigates ICP response to Sch.
pretreatment of anaphylaxis
cimetidine, diphenhydramine
tx of anesthetic anaphylaxis
Stop Rx give epi. Aminophylline with persistent bronchospasm. Corticosteroids to ↓inflammatory response.
drugs for aspiration pneumonia prophylaxis
Cimetidine, ranitidine, bicitra, polycitra, meoclorpramide
use of glycopyrrolate
Glycopyrrolate has ↑antisialogogue and no sedation/amnesia effect.
CV support during anesthesia
PE for spinal/epidural hypotension
