Anesthetic machine Flashcards
Volatile gaseous anesthetics are mixed with what for transport?
a carrier gas, either oxygen alone or oxygen combo with air or nitrous oxide
What are the 3 broad parts that make up an anesthetic machine?
gas supply
anesthetic machine
breathing circuit
how do you calculate oxygen cylinder remaining content?
content in L = pressure (bar) x cylinder size (L)
another name for rebreathing circuit
closed circuit (these use soda lime scavengers)
so a nonrebreathing circuit is the open one
for a pediatric t-piece used in with a nonrebreathing circuit what is your flow rate
minute volume at 500-600ml/kg/min and then, 2.5-3 x minute volume
ie. 2 kg puppy
2 x 500-600 ml =1000- 1200ml L/O2/min x 2.5-3 = min 2.5 L, max 3.6 L
what is the APL
adjustable pressure-limiting valve
aka the pop-off valve. you close it temporarily for leak testing and manual ventilation.
max. acceptable pressures in small and large animals
20cmH20 & 30 for large
how do you calculate your reservoir bag size
tidal volume is typically 10-20 ml/kg
then, tidal volume multiplied by 6.
so 28 kg dog 280-560ml x 6 = 1.7L- 3.360L
what to check on anesthetic machine before use (5)
O2 supply (and concentrator should produce up to 5L/min)
no stuck flowmeter indicator nor valves
sufficient anesthetic in vaporizer
no leaks (iso smells! sevo does not)
soda lime is adequate and not exhausted
when leak testing what pressure do you need the machine to come to for how long
30 cmH20 for 10 sec
