Anesthesia - Cardiac Patients Flashcards
1
Q
what drugs are used to treat bradycardia and heart blocks
A
- anticholinergics (atropine, glycopyrrolate)
- sympathomimetics (dopamine, dobutamine)
- pacemaker
2
Q
what are ways to treat tachycardia
A
- treat the cause (hypovolemia, tachyarrhythmias, pain)
- increase vagal tone
- Diltiazem (Ca channel blocker)
- Beta blockers (atenolol)
3
Q
what are ways to treat hypotension
A
- reduce inhalant
- treat bradycardia + severe tachycardia
- IV Fluid bolus (3 x 5-10 mL/kg/hr)
- positive inotropes (B1 agonists - dopamine, dobutamine)
- vasoconstrictors (A1 agonists - phenylephrine)
4
Q
can IV lidocaine be used in cats
A
NO
only good for dogs with ventricular arrhythmias
5
Q
what do you want for anesthesia in dogs w/ MMVD
A
vasodilation
optimize preload
AVOID:
- bradycardia
- vasoconstriction
6
Q
what do you want for anesthesia in dogs w/ DCM
A
maintain as normal as possible
AVOID:
- depressing systolic function
- vasoconstriction
use positive inotropes if needed
7
Q
what do you want for anesthesia in dogs w/ HCM
A
increase diastolic filling time (bradycardia)
AVOID:
- tachycardia
- vasodilation
- hypotension
- excess fluid administration
