What equipment is needed for dental anesthesia?
Anesthesia machine EKG Pulse Ox Doppler/NIBP Rebreather / Non-rebreather Endotracheal tubes 6-12 cc syringe Gauze tie Gauze squares Laryngoscope Lidocaine
What do we monitor during the procedure?
Vitals, eye positon, palpebral and oral reflexes, lingual pulses
What are four main components for pain management?
Transduction - site of injury
Transmission - peripheral nerves &/local
Modulation - spinal nerves
Perception - cerebral cortex (gas anesthetic)
What are the most common type of drugs for pain managment?
Parental opioids, NSAIDs, Local nerve blocks, anesthesia
What materials are needed for a local nerve block?
1cc syringe, 22-25g needle
Lidocaine / Bupivicaine
What areas would a infraorbital block numb?
upper lip, nose & roof of nasal cavity
What areas would a mandibular block numb?
I, C, PM, skin & mucosa of chin and lower lip. (each side is independent of the other)
What should be observed during recovery of the patient?
General recover vitals,
Pay close attention to temperate and pain.
What are some pain signals?
Pawing at mouth, vocalization, paddling.
