General anesthesia
a reversible state of unconsciousness, immobility, muscle relaxation, and loss of sensation throughout the entire body produced by administration of one or more anesthetic agents.
Surgical anesthesia
specific stage of general anesthesia in which there is a sufficient degree of analgesia and muscle relaxation to allow surgery to be performed without pain or movement.
Sedation
drug-induced CNS depression and drowsiness that vary in intensity from light to deep
Tranquilization
drug-induced state of calm in which the patient is reluctant to move and is aware of but unconcerned about surroundings.
Local anesthesia
loss of sensation in a small area of the body
Topical anesthesia
loss of sensation of a localized area by admin of a local anesthetic directly to a body surface or wound
Balanced anesthesia
Administration of multiple drugs concurrently in smaller quantities than would be required if each were given alone
Anesthetic that sight hounds are sensitive to
Barbiturates - due to lack of body fat and slow metabolism of these agents.
Young patients are more prone to ___ and ___ due to them not being fully developed.
Hypothermia and Hypoxia
Acepromazine is contraindicated in ___ due to penile prolapse
