9
Q

pathogenesis of Ancylostoma caninum

A
  • use blood for food & respiration
  • females use 0.1 ml/day
  • black tarry faeces
  • microcytic, hypochromic anaemia
  • heavy infections (pups) cause death
  • strong immunity following exposure
  • can cause eosinophilic enteritis in man

11
Q

diagnosis of ancylostoma caninum

A

eggs in feces (dissimialr poles and 2-8 blastomeres)

egg counts high but eggs small (Uncinaria has a larger egg)

Q

what are some facts about uncinaria stenocephala

A

common in cooler areas (like VIC)
eggs larger than ancylostoma caninum
L3 are ingested and no extra intestinal migration
less pathogenic

16
Q

what are features of hookworms of ruminants, what do they cause and what is the PPP

A

bunostomum
mainly in warm areas
skin penetration and transcolostral infection
cutting plates
cause anemia, hypoproteinemia, 1000 is fatal burder
PPP= 7 weeks

17
Q

what is the hookworm of the pig

A

globocephalus spp.

18
Q

what is the distribution and pathogenic effects of globocephalus and what species does it occur in

A

tropical areas

causes: anemia, weight loss and emaciation esp in piglets
