What should you see looking over the side
What does Anchor chain up and down mean
Chain is vertical - coil of chain on the sea bed, it needs to be stretched out
12 oclock short stay
Direction and the type of stay, short means just slightly ahead from up and down.
10 Oclock medium stay
slightly left of dead ahead and slightly farther than short stay from up and down
11 oclock long stay
10-15 degree angle from anchor and is a straight chain, this is quite close to dragging.
What would you see in the stay if anchor is dragging
The stay switching from long to medium as it gets taught then jumps
How can you feel if anchor is dragging
Place boot of chain and feel the vibrations
How to deal with anchor dragging
Pay out more anchor
Hoist anchor and firm the weather
