Anatomy upper limb (flexor compartement) Flashcards

1
Q

Describe superficial muscles on the anterior compartment of the forearm

A

Comprises flexor Carpi ulnaris, palmaris Longus, flexor Carpi radialis and pronator teres, all originate from a common tendon which arises from the medial epicondyle of the humerus

Q

Flexor digitorum profondus

A

Origin: upper 3/4 of the anterior and medial aspect of the ulna and interosseous membrane and deep fascia of the forearm

Insertion: tendons pass through Carple tunnel deep to superficialis and run through superficial tendons to attach to distal phalanx of digits 2-5

Action: flexion of wrist, mcpj and ipj

Inervation:
Medial aspect which flexes 4 and 5 supplied by ulnar nerve (c8, t1)

Lateral aspect is innervated by medial nerve (as ain)

Q

Flexor pollicus Longus

A

Origin: grooved anterior surface of the radius extending directly below the radial tuberosity interosseous membrane and coronoid of the ulnar

Insertion: through carpal tunnel lodged between the head of flexor pollicus brevis and adductor pollicis inserting into the base of the phalanx of the thumb

Action: flexor of the thumb when the thumb is fixed aids in flexion of the wrist

Innervation: anterior interosseous branch of the medial nerve (c5-t1)
