Anatomy Revision - Muscle/Action/Origin/Insertion/Innervation Flashcards
Pectoralis minor action
draw scapula laterally and forward around the chest wall (with serratus anterior)
with other muscles rotates scapula and depresses apex of shoulder
Pectoralis minor origin
ribs 3-5 and overlying fascia
Pectoralis minor insertion
coracoid process of scapula
Pectoralis minor innervation
medial and lateral pectoral nerves
Serratus anterior action
with pectoralis minor - draw scapula forward and around the chest wall
protracts scapula
prime mover in all forward reaching and pushing actions ; aids in rotating scapula to elevate apex of shoulder; fixes scapula during abduction of arm
Serratus anterior origin
all or nearly all ribs
Serratus anterior insertion
medial border of scapula
Serratus anterior innervation
long thoracic nerve
Trapezius action
stabilises scapula and shoulder during arm movements; elevates and depresses apex of shoulder; acts with other muscles to rotate and retract scapula
Trapezius origin
External occipital protuberance; medial one third of superior nuchal line; spinous process of vertebrae (C7-T3 or 4)
Trapezius insertion
acromion and spine of scapula; lateral one third of clavicle
Trapezius innervation
accessory nerve ; anterior rami of C3/C4
Levator scapulae action
elevates scapula if cervical vertebrae are fixed
flexes neck laterally if scapula is fixed
retracts scapula and braces shoulder
rotates scapula and depresses apex of shoulder
Levator Scapulae origin
transverse processes of vertebrae C1-C4
Levator scapulae insertion
superior angle to medial border of scapulae
Levator scapulae innervation
Spinal nerves C3-4 and C5 via posterior scapula nerve
Rhomboideus minor action
retracts scapula and braces shoulder; fixes scapula during arm movements
Rhomboideus minor origin
spinous processes of Vertebrae C7-T1; nuchal ligament
Rhomboideus minor insertion
medial border of scapula
Rhomoideus minor innervation
posterior scapula nerve
Rhomboideus major action
same as rhomboid minor
Rhomboideus major origin
spinous processes of vertebrae T2-T5
Rhomboideus major insertion
medial border of scapula
Rhomboideus major innervation
posterior scapula nerve
