Anatomy Pratical 2 Questions Flashcards
what do the brain start off as and what do they turn into
Forebrain - Telencephalon and diencephalon
Midbrain - mesencephalon
Hindbrain- Rhombencephalon (metencephalon and myelencephalon)
Which structure sits at the junction between the forebrain and hindbrain?
midbrain
What parts of the brain make up the brainstem
Midbrain, pons and medula
Which fibre tracts (that you know of) pass through the brainstem?
Spinothalamic, dorsal columns, spinocerebellar, corticospinal, sympathetic fibres
Which cranial nerves emerge lateral to the inferior olive?
9-11
Which cranial nerves emerge between the inferior olive and pyramids?
12
What information is carried in these fasciculi? (Cuneate and gracile)
These will become the dorsal columns in the spinal cord, so conscious proprioception and fine touch, vibration and 2 point discrimination
what is the blood supply to the dorsal aspect of the medulla pons and midbrain
Dorsal medulla = PICA Dorsal pons = AICA and SCA Dorsal midbrain = PCA
What is the blood supply to the ventral aspect of the medulla, pons and midbrain?
Ventral medulla = vertebral and anterior spinal Ventral pons = basilar and ponitine
Ventral midbrain = SCA, PCA
