Anatomy of the leg (calf) Flashcards
what fascia surrounds all the muscles of the leg?
investing deep fascia , attached to the tibia
what are the fibrous fascia’s
- transverse intermuscular septum
- posterior crural intermuscualr septum
- Anterior crural intermuscular septum
muscles for dorsiflexion (just lift the foot)
one muscle at the front -Tibialis anterior
it also has a role in inversion of the foot
Muscles for planter flexion (lift the whole body)
GSP
- gastrocnemius ( 2 heads , medial and lateral condyles of femur)
- Soleus
-plantaris
both of their tendons unite to form the calcaneal tendon = heel chord or Acillies tendon
extensor muscles pf the toe
2 long
2 short
- extensor hallucis longus (anterior compartment = extends big toe )
-extensor digitorum longus (anterior compartment = extends the mcp of toes)
BOTH ABOVE= POWERFUL dorsiflexors of the ankle - extensor hallucis brevis + extensor digitorium brevi ( do the same as above but don’t dorsilflex the ankle )
which muscles produce inversion of the foot ?
tibialis posterior
tibialis anterior
which muscles produce eversion of the foot ?
x3
peroneus loves BT
peroneus longus
peroneus brevis
peroneus tertius
veins of the leg
short saphenous vein ( back)
long saphenous vein (front )
deep => popliteal vein
arteries of the leg
- popliteal artery :
- anterior tibial artery (forwards)
- ends by dividing into => posterior tibial artery + Peroneal artery
nerve supply of the leg
- medial compartment => femoral , saphenous nerve
- anterior compartment =>common perineal nerve
nerve supply of the leg
- medial compartment => femoral , saphenous nerve
- anterior compartment =>common fibular nerve
