Anatomy of respiratory system Flashcards
What is the function of the thoracic duct ?
It drains chyle from most of the body
Where does the thoracic duct originate and terminate?
Originates at cisterna chyli
Terminates at left venous angle
What is the left venous angle?
Junction between the left internal jugular vein and left subclavian
What drains the lymph from the upper right area of the body?
Right lymphatic duct
What is special about the Virchow’s node?
It is the last shared pathway of lymph originating from the abdomen
what does the azygous vein branch into?
right Posterior intercostal veins
Accessory Hemiazygous and hemiazygous vein
Right ascending lumbar vein
What does gear azygous vein drain into?
SVC
If the SVC is blocked how can the azygous vein form an alternative route for blood to return to the heart?
Azygous to Right Ascending Lumbar Vein to IVC to right Atrium
what is the sympathetic chain composed of?
Ganglia: cell bodies of post ganglionic nerves
Ascending or descending pre ganglionic nerves
what are the 3 possibilities of how the presynaptic nerve can synapse?
1) Pre and post synapse in the ganglion at the same level.
2) Pre can either ascending or descend to synapse with the upper or lower ganglion.
3) Pre doesn’t synapse there and goes to ganglia in abdomen
What nerves do the parasympathetic preganglionic nerves originate from?
Nerves 3, 7, 9 and 10
S2-4
What nerves do the sympathetic preganglionic nerves originate from?
T1-L2
What system only has visceral (organ) nerve distribution?
Parasympathetic
what quality of the heart allows it to beat once it is out of the body?
Autorhythmic
wHat is a hiatus hernia?
Protrusion of the stomach through the oesophageal hiatus
