anatomy of blood vessels Flashcards

1
Q

what is stroke volume

A

the volume of blood pumped out by a ventricle with each heartbeat, increases as the force of ventricular contraction increases, 70ml per beat, factors that influence SV- preload- stretch of cardiac muscles, contractility-ability to generate force, afterload-force on semilunar valves that ventricles must overcome to pump blood

what are things that modify heart rate

A

ANS (anatomical nervous system) controls (parasympathetic, sympathetic), Hormones and ions (epinephrine, thyroxine, calcium), physical factors (age, gender, exercise)
