anteriorly: prepontine cistern (contains CN V & VI),
Basilar artery and pontine branches. Clivus/anterior wall of posterior fossa.
laterally: cerebellopontine angle cistern (contains CN VII & VIII)
posteriorly: fourth ventricle (the pons makes up the anterior wall, with rhomboid fossa posteriorly). Cerebellar pedicles. Choroid plexus.
superiorly: continuous with the midbrain
inferiorly: continuous with the medulla
