Anatomy: Muscular System Flashcards
What is muscle tissue made out of?
Fibrous Cells Designed for Contraction
What does muscle tissue contain?
Microfilaments
What are the 2 specific microfilaments in muscle tissue?
The proteins:
1.) Actin
2.) Myosin
What are the 3 types of muscle tissue?
1.) Smooth Muscle
2.) Skeletal Muscle
3.) Cardiac Muscle
What do microfilaments do?
They Slide Over One Another
What size cells does skeletal muscle have?
Large Cells (Many Nuclei, Mitochondria)
What do collagen fibers around cells merge with?
The Collagen Fibers in Tendons
What kind of muscle is skeletal muscle?
Striated & Voluntary
What size cells does smooth muscle have?
Small Cells (Spindle Shaped Cells)
Where is smooth muscle found?
In The Walls of Hollow Organs
What are some examples of where smooth muscle is found?
Stomach, Intestines, Urinary Bladder, Uterus, & Blood Vessels
What kind of muscle is smooth muscle?
Unstriated & Involuntary
Where is cardiac muscle found?
In the Heart
What size cells does cardiac muscle have?
Small Cells (Branching Cells With Only One Nucleus)
How are the branching cells of cardiac muscle connected?
Via Intercalated Disks
