Anatomy - Lower Limb Flashcards
Only ___ rami innervate the extremities
Ventral
Only what part of the ANS innervates the extremities?
only the Symp NS
What is the Lumbar Plexus?
L2-L4’s ventral rami join to form the femoral nerve (anterior thigh & joints), and the obturator nerve (medial thigh)
Formed: in the psoas muscle from the anterior rami of the upper 4 lumbar nerves
Lumbar plexus & sacral plexus
transversus abdominis, internal & external oblique muscles & skin above the inguinal ligament
Iliohypogastric (L1)
What does the iliohypogastric nerve innervate?
Comes from L1, innervates transversus abdominis, internal & external oblique muscles & skin above the inguinal ligament
as above & supplies skin above symphysis pubis, scrotum, labium majus
Ilioinguinal (L1)
divides anterior & posterior supplies skin lateral thigh & knee & lower part of buttocks
Lateral cutaneous (L2&3)
What is the Popiteal fossa?
Diamond-shaped space in posterior knee with Popliteal vessels, small saphenous vein, common peroneal and tibial nerves, and lymph nodes.
Boundaries of Popliteal Fossa
Superomedial (hamstrings) Semimembranosus muscle Semitendinosus muscle (think, cord-like muscle) Superolateral Biceps femoris Inferomedial Gastrocnemius (medial) head Inferolateral Gastrocnemius (lateral) head plantaris
Name 5 muscles supplied by the Obturator ARTERY
Obturator externus Pectineus Adductors of thigh Gracilis Hamstrings (not anterior)
this is horribly incomplete
