Anatomy Lecture - Abdomen 2 Flashcards
What are the boundaries of the liver?
Rib 7 - Rib 11
Is the pancreas retro, extra or peritoneal?
Retroperitoneal
What are the five portions of the pancreas?
Uncinate process: In C-Loop of duodenum
Neck L1-L2 : Overlies Superior mesenteric vein and artery
Body
Tail
Where is the spleen?
Lies in the LUQ between 9th and 11th rib
Palpable beneath the left costal margin
Pathology can be identified using murphy test
What are the surface markers of the spleen?
From where do the celiac, superior and inferior mesenteric arteries arise?
From the anterior surface of the abdominal aorta.
What is the venous system called that drains the gut region?
It is called the portal venous system. Drains the upper GI, liver, pancreas, stomach and intestines.
Are the kidneys extra, retro or peritoneal?
Retroperitoneal
What three structures enter / exit the kidney?
The renal vein, artery and renal pelvis
What is the orientation of the renal artery, renal vein and renal pelvis to eachother?
Most posterior structure if the artery
Most anterior is the vein
inferiorposterior to the vein and inferiorsuperior to the artery is the renal pelvis.
At what level does the kidneys reside?
T12 - T13 (right is slightly lower)
Is the bladder retro, extra or peritoneal?
It is extraperitoneal and sits posterior to the pubis.
Where do the gonadal arteries arise from?
Directly from the aorta inferior to the renal arteries.
What renal vein crosses the IVC?
The left renal vein traverses the aorta because the IVC lies right of the IVC
What level is the neck of the pancreas at?
L1-L2
