Anatomy Lab 3 Quiz- Abdominal Viscera Flashcards
What are the three branches of the celiac trunk? What structures do they supply?
Left gastric artery: Lesser curvature of the stomach and lower esophagus
Common hepatic artery: Through it’s many branches, supplies the liver, pylorus of the stomach, gallbladder, duodenum and pancreas
Splenic artery: Spleen, greater curvature of the stomach and pancreas
What are the branches of the SMA? What areas of the abdomen does the superior mesenteric artery supply?
Middle colic, right colic, ileocecal artery
From the ampulla of Vader region to the proximal 2/3rds of the large intestine
What parts of the abdomen does the inferior mesenteric artery supply?
Sigmoidal arteries, superior rectal, left colic artery
Distal 1/3rd of the transverse colon and proximal 2/3rds of the rectum
What is the blood supply to the liver?
25%- Proper hepatic artery
75%- Hepatic portal vein
What is the blood supply to the gallbladder
Cystic duct, a branch of the right hepatic artery
How does the blood supply to the head of the pancreas differ from the blood supply to the rest of it?
The entire pancreas is supplied by pancreatic branches of the splenic artery. The head is also supplied by branches of the celiac artery, from the SMA
What part of abdominal aorta supplies the stomach?
Celiac trunk
What are portocaval anastomoses? Where do they occur with portal hypertension?
Portocaval anastomoses are where the portal circulation connects with systemic circulation.
Umbilicus, esophagus and rectum will present with varices during portal hypertension,
What is the epiploic foramen?
Passage between the greater and lesser sacs
What is the portal triad and it’s relationship to the lesser omentum?
The portal triad is the common bile duct, portal artery and hepatic portal vein, which come into the liver together.
They come in through the hepatoduodenal ligament, which is a part of the lesser omentum
What is the ampulla of Vater?
Where the common bile duct and pancreatic duct come together to empty into the duodenum
What are the taenia coli?
The shiny ribbons on the outside of the large intestine
What McBurney’s point, and why is it significant?
McBurney’s point is 1/3rd of the distance between the ASIS and umbilicus. If positive, it rules up appendicitis
What is Murphy’s sign and what is it’s significance?
Murphy’s sign is in the RUQ, and if it is positive cholecystitis can be ruled up.
