Anatomy & Imaging GIT Flashcards
Pancreatitis causes inflammation and enzymes can leak out and damage other organs. Since the kidney is right behind the pancreas, why does it not get damaged by pancreatits?
It doesn’t get damaged because it is surrounded by Gerata’s fascia which is dense and protects kidney’s from damage
Is free air on a film normal?
No, it means there is a perforation somewhere
Is morison’s pouch intra or retroperitoneal? Douglas pouch?
Intraperitoneal, retroperitoneal?
What are the key nerves for swallowing?
5, 9, 10, 11, 12
These nerves are involved in the oral prep phase of chewing and producing saliva?
V3, VII
CN 5, 7
These nerves are involved in the oral (buccal phase) of moving the food bolus to back of throat?
CN 5, 7, 12
Mylohyloid helps out
These nerves are involved in the pharyngeal phase
5, 10, 11, 12
What nerve is important in chewing and sensation to the mouth and anterior 2/3 of tongue?
CN 5
PSNS to salivary glands in mouth and parotid gland
What nerve is responsible for taste on anterior 2/3 of tongue?
Facial n 7 via chorda tympani
What nerve is responsible for taste and sensation on posterior 1/3 of tongue?
CN 9
This nerve is involved in taste from epiglottis
Vagus neve 10
This nerve assists in swallowing function
CN 11
This nerve supplies motor innervation to the tongue?
CN 12
Is the esophagus under conscious control?
Skeletal muscle, not under conscious control
Weakness in Killian’s Dehisence can lead to what?
Zenker’s diverticulum
What are the symptoms of Zenker’s diverticulum?
Symptoms include difficulty swallowing, feeling swallowed material sticking in the throat, regurgitation, weight loss, bad breath, choking, and coughing.
What is at the gastroesophageal junction that can cause problems but is usually asymptomatic?
Schatski RIng
What type of cancer cells happen in the esophagus?
adenocarcinoma
A ______ is blocked first in a stangulated hernia and then the ______ is blocked second
vein, artery
Would postprandial response be increased or decreased in ischemia? What about obstruction?
Increased in obstruction and decreased in ischemia (paralysis)
What is the difference between a bowel obstruction and ileus?
Ileus- Irritation and inflammation has caused a loss of peristalis, causing dilated and non-functioning bowel (no bowel sounds)
mechanical obstruction- secondary to adhesions, tumor, hernias, intussecption and IBS (herperactive bowel sounds) because the peristalsis tries to overcome the obstruction causing cramping and pain
A malrotation leads to ________
volvulus
The porta hepatis (portal triad) contains what structures?
- Common bile duct
- hepatic artery proper
- portal vein
acoustic shadowing
cholelithiasis
