Anatomy ( Histology From Personal Notes) Flashcards
What is a tissue
This is a group of similar cells that that similar structure and function as one unit
What is histology
This is the the study of tissues
Mention the four basic types of tissues
Connective tissue
Muscle tissue
Epithelial tissue
Nervous tissue
What holds the cells together preventing them from floating.
Extracellular matrix
What does extracellular mean
Outside the cell
What does intercellular mean
Inside the cell
What do cells form after attaching to one another
Inter junction s
What is an extracellular matrix
This is a network of non living material that holds and supports the cell
What does the extracellular matrix include
It’s includes the inter junction cellular and basement membrane
What do the extracellular matrix include
Fibers, proteins, Glycoproteins ( molecules made of sugars and protein)
One of the proteins talked about in histology is coalogen what is the function of coalogen to a cell.
It’s a structure protein which offer support to a cell
What are the functions of epithelial tissue s
Protection
Secretion
Filtration
Absorption
What are the key characteristics of epithelial tissues
It’s exhibits polarity ( meaning it’s has two distinct surfaces polarized, it’s has the apical side
and the basal side
. The basement membrane is epithelial tissue is made up of connective tissues
. It’s cellular in nature (tightly packed)
. it’s avascular ( lacks it’s own blood supply)
. it’s can regenerate (repair themselves)
.
We’re does each cell rest
It’s rests on the basement membrane
What are the two types of epithelial tissues.
Surface / covering epithelial
Glandular epithelial
How is surface epithelial classified
Based on the arrangement of the cell
Shape of cells(height…)
Based on arrangement of the cells how is surface epithelial classified
One layer epithelial (simple epithelial)
More than one layer (stratified epithelial)
Arrangement are onto of each other (pseudo epithelial)
Not in the same length (transitional epithelium)
Which structures have simple epithelial
Structures responsible for filtration, secretion and absorption
Which structures have stratified epithelial.
Structures responsible for protection eg the skin
We’re is transitional epithelium found
It’s found in structures that require stretching eg the bladder
What is the difference between endocrine glands and exocrine
Endocrine glands don’t have glands while exocrine have glands
What are the shapes of epithelial found in epithelial glands.
Cuboidal or columnar
When naming tissues what do you start with.
