Boutonniere Deformity
Central band/slip broken –> FDS over-powers so extreme flexion @ PIP –> Lateral bands slip velar & assist PIP flexion
Swan Neck Deformity
FDS cut OR extensor forces dominate -> PIP hyperextension & DIP flexion –> Distal lateral bands slackened & unable to extend DIP
Mallet Deformity
Terminal extensor tendons cut –> FDS over-powers –> DIP flexion (may lead to Swan Neck Deformity since ALL extensor forces now acting ONLY at PIP)
