Anatomy Exam- Upper Extremity Flashcards
Trapezius muscle
Positioned posterior (superficial to rhomboid muscles
Accessory nerve (CN XI)
Runs parallel to the transverse cervical artery on the deep aspect of trapezius muscle
Transverse cervical artery
Runs parallels to the accessory nerve (CN XI) on the deep aspect of the trapezius muscle
Thoracodorsal artery
Runs parallel to thoracodorsal nerve on the deep aspect of the latissimus dorsi muscle
Thoracodorsal nerve
Runs parallel to the Thoracodorsal artery on the deep aspect of the latissimus dorsi muscle
Rhomboid muscle
Positioned deep/more anterior to the Trapezius muscle
Dorsal scapular nerve
Runs parallel to dorsal scapular artery on the deep aspect of rhomboid muscles at medial border of scapula
Deltoid muscle (posterior)
Posterior deltoid muscle is superficial to Infraspinatous muscle
Axillary nerve
The axillary nerve runs parallel to the posterior circumflex humeral artery on the deep aspect of the deltoid muscle
Posterior circumflex humeral artery
Posterior circumflex humeral artery runs parallel to the axillary nerve on the deep aspect of the deltoid muscle
Teres minor muscle
Positioned laterally to the infraspinatus muscle
Teres major muscle
Is inferior to Teres minor muscle (typically easy to ID on cadavers- large borders)
Long head of triceps brachii muscle
Long head of the triceps brachii passes in between the Teres minor and Teres major muscles
Infraspinatus muscle
Medial to the Teres major, inferior to scapular spine
Supraspinatus muscle
Superior to scapular spine
Suprascapular artery
The suprascapular artery passes ABOVE (superior to) the superior transverse scapular ligament
Suprascapular nerve
The suprascapular nerve passes BELOW (inferior to) the superior transverse scapular ligament
Circumflex scapular artery*
- not on Donor ID list
Circumflex scapular artery passes inferior and lateral to the Teres minor muscle (transverse the triangular space)
Pectoralis major muscle- clavicular head
attaches to clavicle; once located can find the cephalic vein between here & deltoid [in the deltoid-pectoral groove]
Pectoralis major- Sternocostal head
Connects Pectoralis major to sternum & costal cartilages 1-7; near where the medial pectoral nerve comes out of the Pectoralis minor (underneath) to deep aspect of Pectoralis major
Cephalic vein
Found in between the deltoid and clavicular head of the Pectoralis major muscle (in the delto-pectoral groove)
Medial pectoral nerve
Pierces the Pectoralis minor (to come anteriorly) to the deep aspect of the sternocostal head of the Pectoralis major muscle. Actually located on lateral side (despite name!)
Lateral pectoral nerve
Innervates the deep aspect of the clavicular head of Pectoralis major muscle; actually medially located (despite the name!)
Thoracoacromial trunk
Thoracoacromial trunk passes medial to the Pectoralis major muscle
Thoracoacromial artery - pectoral branch
Pectoral branch of Thoracoacromial artery is deep to the Pectoralis major muscle
Pectoralis minor
Pectoralis minor muscle is deep to the Pectoralis major muscle
