Anatomy Ear Flashcards
“auricle” the satellite dish. sound waves rattle around in order to enter canal.
pinna
“external acoustic meatus” where wax is created. soundwaves enter and get funneled through here.
external auditory canal
soundwaves go to hear. vibrates the drum. where external auditory canal leads to
tympanic membrane
allows attenuation, amplifies the soundwave so it doesn’t thin out quickly. (super tiny) consists of three bones
auditory ossicles
3 ear bones. list outer to ineer.
malleus, incus, stapes
window right behind stapes
oval window
window below stapes. membrane-covered.
round window
“auditory tube” canal that drains into the nose
eustachian tube
the rigid, bony outer wall of the inner ear in the temporal bone. It consists of three parts: the vestibule, semicircular canals, and cochlea
bony labryinth
a group of ducts and chambers filled with endolymphatic fluid. It is located within the bony labyrinth.
membranous labyrinth
thicker fluid inside cochlear duct
endolymph
the fluid inside the scalas
perilymph
chamber in which connects portions of inner ear
vestibule
top of inner ear. the three big loops, each are in a plane. helps with balance
semicircular canals
lower portion of inner ear. helps with hearing
cochlea
superior scala
scala vestibuli
inferior scala
scala tympani
inside membranous labyrinth, between the two scalas.
cochlear duct
part of duct that will bend depending on fluid
organ of corti
nerve that comes from both canals so that information about balance and hearing can be processed in brain
vestibulocochlear nerve
soundwaves along pathways is not allowing the conduction to occur very well
conduction loss of hearing
soundwaves are getting to their desired location, put not being past well into the brain .
sensorineural loss of hearing
maintenance of the proper head position in response to changes in linear motion such as walking (sitting still but fluid in ear is still moving)
static equilibrium
maintenance of proper head position in response to rotational movement such as turning (balance of motion. body and fluids move)
dynamic equillibrium
when the eye moves and beats uncontrollably. ear fluid cant find balance.
nystagmus
