Anatomy - Abdominal Exam Flashcards
What is contained in the hepatic triad?
Proper hepatic artery
bile duct
portal vein
What is the portal vein usually formed from?
splenic + superior mesenteric vein
can also sometimes be with the inferior mesenteric vein
What are the retroperitoneal structures?
SAD PUCKER
Suprarenal (Adrenal) gland
Aorta and IVC
Duodenum (2nd + 3rd part only)
Pancreas (except for tail)
Ureter
Colon (except for transverse)
Kidney
Esophagus
Rectum
What are the major branches of the celiac trunk and what do they supply?
left gastric artery - lesser curvature of the stomach
splenic artery - spleen, stomach, pancreas
common hepatic artery - liver, pylorus, duodenum, pancreas, gallbladder
Describe the SMA. What does it supply?
second vessel from abdominal aorta ~ L1
inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery: head of the pancreas + regions of duodenum
middle colic artery: proximal transverse colon
r colic artery: ascending colon
ileocolic artery: cecum, appendix, ileum
jejunal and ileal branches
What are the branches of the inferior mesenteric artery and what do they supply?
IMA:
Left colic artery:
- distal 1/3 transverse colon
- descending colon
sigmoid artery: sigmoid colon
superior rectal artery: superior portion of the rectum
What does the COMMON hepatic artery supply?
gastroduodenal artery: pylorus, duodenum and head of the pancreas
becomes proper hepatic artery after the gastroduodenal branch
What does the PROPER hepatic artery supply?
liver, gall bladder
becomes L hepatic and R hepatic
R hepatic has cystic artery for gallbladder
What veins become the portal vein?
splenic, inferior and superior mesenteric veins
What does the internal iliac artery supply?
Pelvic, perineum, gluteal
What does the external iliac artery supply blood to?
lower extremities, feet, lower abdominal wall
What supplies the transverse colon?
proximal 2/3
- middle colic artery of the SMA
distal 1/3
- left colic artery of the IMA
What does the ileocolic artery supply?
SMA branch
supplies ileum, cecum, appendix
What supplies the ascending colon?
right colic artery - SMA branch
Describe the proper hepatic artery
branch of the common hepatic
- becomes proper after the gastroduodenal branch
Branches:
R gastric artery: supplies stomach
L hepatic: supplies liver
R hepatic: supplies liver
- cystic: supplies gallbladder
