Anatomy Flashcards
What is the quadrangular space?
A space through which the axillary nerve and posterior circumflex artery travel between the anterior and posterior regions of the shoulder
What parts of the hand does the median nerve supply sensory innervation?
- Lateral palm
- Palmar surface and fingertips of the lateral three and half digits
What are the motor functions of the median nerve?
- Pronation of the forearm
- Flexion of the wrist
- Flexion of at the MCP joint and extension at the IPJ of the index and middle fingers
- All movements of the thumb
What parts of the hand does the ulnar nerve supply sensory innervation?
- Medial palm
- Dorsal surface of palm and medial one and a half digits
- Palmar surface of medial one and a half digits
What are the motor functions of the ulnar nerve?
- Flexion and adduction of the hand at the wrist
- Flexion at MCP joint and extension at IPJ of ring finger
- All movement of the little finger
- Adduction of the thumb
- Adduction and abduction of all fingers at the MCP joint
- Assists with grip
What is Froment’s sign?
A test for ulnar nerve palsy, specifically paralysis of the adductor pollicis
How do you test for Froment’s sign?
The patient is asked to hold a piece of paper between the thumb and index finger as the paper is pulled away
What is a positive Froment’s test?
Where the patient flexes the thumb at the IPJ to try to hold the paper instead of adducting the thumb
What are the motor functions of the radial nerve?
- Extension and flexion at the elbow
- Extension, abduction and adduction of the wrist
- Extends medial four fingers at MCP and IPJs
- Extends little finger
- Pronation and supination of forearm
- Abduction and extension of thumb
What is the sensory innervation of the radial nerve?
- Lateral arm inferior to insertion of the deltoids
- Posterior arm
- Middle of posterior forearm
- Dorsal surface of lateral three and a half digits and hand
