Anatomy Flashcards
Which vessel supplies the SA and AV node?
Right coronary artery
Which coronary vessel runs in the anterior inter-ventricular groove?
Left anterior descending
What is the difference between the foramen ovale and the foramen ovalis?
The foramen ovale is the patent hole before birth, the foramen ovalis is the covered up depressed region of the RA at the inter ventricular septum, following birth.
How many leaflets does each heart valve have?
Each heart valve has three cusps (tricuspid), except from the mitral valve which has two cusps (bicuspid valve.)
How much fluid is usually within the pericardium
50 mls of straw-coloured fluid
What anatomical areas does the maxillary artery supply?
Mandible Maxilla Muscles of mastication Palate Nasal cavity
What are the branches of the maxillary artery?
Middle meningeal artery Inferior alveolar artery Buccal artery Deep temporal artery Sphenopalatine artery
What are the branched of the subclavian artery?
Use VIT C&D
Vertebral Internal thoracic Thyrocervical trunk Costal cervical trunk Dorsal scapular
What vessel is the largest tributary to the coronary sinus?
The great cardiac vein which runs in the inter-ventricular groove
When is Brain Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) released?
It is released by the ventricles in response to excessive stretching of cardiomyocytes. E.g in heart failure.
What is the largest branch of the aortic arch?
The brachiocephalic artery
What branches does the brachiocephalic artery give off?
Common carotid
*RIGHT subclavian
Thyroidea ima artery
What are the branches of the internal carotid artery?
Only Press Carotid Arteries Momentarily
Ophthalmic Posterior communicating Choroidal Anterior cerebral Middle cerebral
At what level does the common carotid artery bifurcate in to the internal and external carotid arteries?
C4!
At what level does the aorta bifurcate into the right and left common iliac arteries?
L4!
