Anatomy Flashcards
Flexor digitorum profundus vs. superficialis test
FDP - Flex the DIP (tip of finger when rest held in place) FSP - Flex PIP (hold other fingers down and flex to test)
Draw the brachial plexus
Axillary artery runs through it –> Brachial artery
Erb’s palsy
Upper trunk (lateral traction on neck - delivery or accident) - waiter’s tip - Delt, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, biceps
Klumpke palsy
Total claw hand from upward arm traction or falling from tree - lumbricals, interossei, thenar, hypothenar deficit, lumbricals (usu. flex at MCP, extend distally)
Winged scapula
Long thoracic nerve (C5-7) from axillary dissection
Axillary nerve injury
Flat/numb delt - surgical neck of humerus fx, anterior dislocation –> post. circumflex artery at risk
Radial nerve injury
Midshaft fracture - crutches (deep brachial artery at risk)
Musculocutaneous nerve injury
flexion, supination, lateral forearm sensory
Median nerve
Supracondylar fracture or carpal tunnel
Ulnar nerve
Med. epicondyle injury or hook of hamate
Thoracodorsal nerve
lat dorsi
What is in carpal tunnel
Median nerve, Flexor digitorum profundus/superficialis tendons, Flexor pollicis brevis
What tendon is outside of carpal tunnel
palmaris longus
Median nerve muscles in hand
OAF pollicis Thenar muscles (Opponens pollicis, Abductor pollicis brevis, flexor pollicis brevis) + 1st/2nd lumbricals (flex MCP, extend PIP/DIP)
Ulnar hand muscles
OAF digiti minimi - hypothenar - Opponens digiti minimi, Abductor digiti minimi, Flexor digiti minimi
