Anatomy Flashcards
1
Q
Nose (Nasal Cavity)
A
air enters here, air is cleaned by cilia and warmed and humidified by the mucous membrane
2
Q
Trachea
A
- Lined with cilia, traps particles which gets push back up to pharynx
- Reinforced with cartilage
3
Q
Bronchi
A
- Lead from trachea to lungs
-Primary bronchi -> secondary bronchi -> tertiary bronchi -> terminal bronchioles -> respiratory bronchioles (alveolar ducts) -> alveoli
4
Q
Terminal bronchioles
A
smallest tubes that divided from the tertiary bronchi
5
Q
Respiratory Bronchioles (alveolar ducts)
A
very thin tubes, terminate at alveoli
6
Q
Alveoli
A
- Air sacs encased in capillary net
- Inflatable (initially filled with stale air or residual air)
-grape like - approximately 300 million in number
- total surface area is about HALF a tennis court
- the more surface area, the higher the rate of diffusion
7
Q
pleural cavity
A
- located in between the visceral pleura (inner) and the parietal pleura (outer).
- contains thin film of serous fluid
