Anatomy Flashcards
Anterior segment
anterior & posterior chambers
cornea, iris/ciliary body, lens
Anterior vs Posterior chamber
anterior chamber is btwn corea & iris
Posterior chamber is btwn iris & ciliary body
both have aqueous humor
Posterior segment
sclera/choroid/retina, vitreous (holds shape of eyeball)
Uveal tract
iris, ciliary body, choroid
what is the stroma?
stroma makes up most of the cornea’s thickness
made of collagen fibrils
part of cornea
what is descemet’s membrane
specialized basement membrane for endothelial layer
what is endothelium
maintains desiccation of stroma by actively removing water
rods vs cones
rods– peripheral & low light vision; less concentrated in macula
Cones— central & color vision; More in macula
how accommodation works
when ciliary muscle contracts, zonules + lens relax and can focus on near objects!
“accomodation” is the reverse to see far objects
what nerves control ciliary muscle
CN III parasympathetic fibers
what is miosis
decreasing pupil size
what is mydriasis
increasing pupil size
what produces aqueous humor?
ciliary body
directly affects IOP
how aqueous outflow works
pupil–> anterior chamber–> angle btwn cornea & iris–> meshwork–> canal of schlemm–> extraocular veins
what 2 structures get their nutrients from aqueous humor?why?
cornea & lens
bc they are avascular
