Anatomy 1: Test 1 Material Flashcards
Linear Guide
A linear guide is and imaginary line drawn on the surface of the skin to represent the approximate location of some deeper lying structure.
( Measure line, used to determine where you are going to make your incision)
Topographical Anatomy
Topographical anatomy is the study of anatomy based on regions or divisions of the body and emphasizing the relations between various structures in that region. ( muscles & nerves, veins & arteries ect.)
Anatomical Guide
The anatomical guide is the method of locating structure by reference to an adjacent known or prominent structure
Anatomical Limits
The anatomical limits is the point of origin and point of termination in relation to adjacent structures
Selected topographical areas
A. Anterior Cervical Triangle: is a 3 sided area located toward the front of the neck region.
1. Common Carotid Artery- raised to inject chemicals in to the body to preserve it from decomposition
2. Internal Jugular Vein- raised to establish drainage of embalming chemicals and blood from the body
( BOTH 1&2 LIES IN RELATIONSHIP TO THE STERNOCLAIDMASTOID MUSCLE)
3. Vagus Nerve- is a nerve located in the neck that supplies nerve fibers to the pharynx, larynx, trachea, lungs, heart, esophagus, and intestinal tracts. (DO NOT RAISE TO THE SURFACE)
Boundaries
Boundaries are structures that serve to makeup the 3 sided area.
A. Superior- inferior border of mandible (closest to the top of the lower jaw)
B. Lateral- sternocleidomastoid muscle
C. Medial- midline of the neck
Axilla
Axillary Region is the armpit region of the body
A. Axillary Artery (raised for injection)
I. Armpit artery it’s cream colored
B. Axillary Vein (raised for drainage)
I. Armpit vein
C. Brachial Plexus
I. Bundle of nerves between the arms and shoulders, you don’t want to raise these to the surface
Femoral Triangle
3 sided area located in the thigh region between the hip and knee
Femoral Region
Thigh region
Listed in most lateral to most medial at a point just below the inguinal ligament
A. Femoral Nerve
I. Most lateral nerve in the femoral region
B. Femoral Artery
I. Most lateral Blood Vessel, you want to raise this artery to the surface to inject embalming
C. Femoral Vein
I. Most lateral vein in the femoral region, you want to raise this to to surface to allow for drainage in the embalming process
D. Termination of the great sap heinous vein
I. Most medial structure or blood vessel in the femoral region.
