Cranial Cavity
SKULL
The cranial cavity is the space inside the 8 major bones known as the skull, houses the brain.
Body Cavity
SPACES IN THE BODY
The body cavity is the spaces naturally found in the body
A. Cranial Cavity: space inside the 8 major bones, houses the brain
B. Spinal Cavity (canal): space located inside the bones of the spine, houses the spinal cord
C. Thoracic Cavity: space of the thoracic region, houses the heart, lungs, trachea, esophagus, great (large) blood vessels (aorta, SVC) superior vena cava.
D. Abdominal Pelvic Cavity: located inferior or beneath the diaphragm, houses the liver, gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, spleen, small intestines, appendix, large intestines, kidneys, urinary bladder, prostate (male), uterus (female), and ovaries
Spinal Cavity
Spinal Canal
The spinal cavity is the space located inside the bones of the spine also commonly referred to the spinal canal, houses the spinal cord.
Thoracic Cavity
Thoracic Region
The thoracic cavity is the space that is in the thoracic region it is also known as the trunk, houses the heart, lungs, trachea, esophagus, great (large) blood vessels which are the aorta, and the superior vena cava (SVC)
Abdominal Pelvic Cavity
Lower Abdomen
The abdominal pelvic cavity is located inferior or beneath the diaphragm, houses the liver, gall bladder, stomach, pancreas, spleen, small intestines, appendix, large intestines, kidneys, urinary bladder, male prostate, and female uterus & ovaries.
