Transverse (Horizontal) Plane
Crosses the body perpendicular to its axis divides body into superior and inferior portion.
Anatomical position
Standing upright with feet lat on the floor, arms at the sides, and the palms and face directly forward
Saggital plane
Passes vertically through the body to divide it into left and right sides.
Median Plane
Split in half as well the head and pelvic are commonly illustrated
Frontal (coronal) Plane
Vertical; perpendicular to Sagittal plane divides body to anterior and posterior
Directional terms
Location of one structure relative to another.
Axial Region
Head, Neck, trunk
Midclavicular
Each vertical line in the abdominopelvic region
Segment
Is a region between one joint and the next
Ventral
Toward the front
Ex. The aorta is VENTRAL to the vertebral column
Dorsal
Toward the back (spine)
Ex. The vertebral column is DORSAL to the aorta
