head facing forward (anteriorly)

lower limbs straight, heels together, directed anteriorly
superior

proximal
relating to the limbs
nearer to the centre of the body
distal
related to the limbs
further from the centre of the body
medial
towards the midline of the body
lateral
further away from the midline of the body

separates left and right

separates front and back (anterior and posterior)

any other sagittal plane parallel to the median plane
